V-series is Minoura's latest and finest tire drive trainer with various new features for aiming to much more natural pedal feel, much wider resistance range, overwhelming quietness and easiest installation/removal of bike.

Quietness is one of the finest points on AMT. It is much quieter than our VFS series which was used be the world quietest trainer, so AMT is the best choice ever for those who live in apartment house and need to worry about neighbors peaceful life.

The total resistance range becomes double to VFS series. In addition, we focus on lower power zone where should be the main stage on daily exercise. Of course, AMT can fit professional riders desired level.

What's Advanced-Magturbo Technology (AMT) ?

For more natural pedal feel and wider resistance range

Flywheel is a large metal disc piece on the resistance unit. It works to provide natural pedal feel as if you are riding on the road. If the trainer doesn't have flywheel, the pedal feel must become very jerky.
It is a fact that the heavier flywheel, the better pedal feel. However, too heavy flywheel sometimes cause damage on your knee due to too heavy load when starting pedaling, and it often shorten your tire life. In addition, too much weight is not good for easy transportation.

AMT is Minoura's patent pending technology.
AMT's flywheel is specially designed to have thicker outer edge and thinner inner wall. It's not just a thick metal disc like others. This design can provide virtually heavier weight than its actual weight because of greater moment of inertia.

Now, resistance level adjustment is unavoidable function to enable to simulate various types of training. But the old style system cannot adjust the level properly; it was not in same step.
Some was too close and some was too far. It was hard to adjust to your exactly desired level.

The inner face of AMT flywheel has stair-step design with uneven pitch. It is the scientifically designed feature on MAGTEQS technology to enable to layout totally 7 levels in equal step.

Flywheel Mechanism

Unique design on dimension and inner face

As you can see from the cut photo of AMT unit, the outer side is thick and the inner side is thin. This enables to increase the moment of inertial while keeping it lightweight. So AMT flywheel can work as if you are spinning much heavier plain flywheel.
The actual weight of V270's flywheel is 2.0 kgs but it works as same as 2.7 kgs (+35%).

The inner face of the flywheel is designed as stair-step shape in uneven pitch.
AMT is the Eddy-Current type magnetic resistance system, so controlling resistance level is done by adjusting the distance between the magnet and the iron flywheel. The closer the distance, the more resistance.
We are micro tuning both the distance and the flat area on flywheel in each step for expecting equal resistance difference in any level among 7 positions.

Neodymium Magnet

4 times stronger than normal Ferrite magnet

We have been adopting Ferrite magnet because it is reasonable cost and easy to get. However, Ferrite doesn't have enough capacity so we had to focus on only either lower power zone or higher power zone. It was not almighty.
Neodymium is one of the strongest magnet in the market. By adopting it, we can expand the range double (comparing to VFS) from low to high.

For expecting effective and gentle training to your body, you need to design a streamline of workout. Light setting in the beginning for warming-up then increasing gradually or changing the level alternately for interval training, and lastly light level again for cooling-down.

Any fluid type trainer cannot realize this dynamic change of resistance level.
Fluid system just adjusts the oil surface level in the chamber to change the depth of the cup in oil. It's not effective enough, because once the cup starts spinning, the oil will be spread out to the inside wall of the chamber like as a ring. Therefore, the adjustability of fluid type trainer is quite limited.
In addition, fluid type trainer cannot simulate "High-speed / Low-resistance" mode for sprint training, because the resistance level will have to be increased automatically when accelerating speed.

MAGTEQS is the most controllable and the widest capacity trainer in the market.

Remote Shifter Device

New quick release type shifter

The remote shifter can adjust the resistance level without getting off the bike during workout. It is a highly recommended feature for making your training as effective as possible.
Adjusting resistance may be able to be done by shifting gears on bike, but it is different from your desired gear combination, and too wide gear ratio often makes pedaling jerky due to too much pedaling torque change.
V-series comes with the newly designed convenient remote shifter device.

The previous remote shifter's clamping device was made of metal or plastic, so it fits round dimension tubing only and it was impossible to install on any aerodynamic carbon handlebar or stem.
The new shifter's clamp is constructed with flexible textile band so it can fit any dimension. In addition, it has quick release mechanism so installation or removal can be done in mere seconds.

The new lever is designed larger for much easier operation. The lever ratchet mechanism contains a ball bearing for smoother and comfortable touch.

2009-2010 model has the chrome plated shifter lever and a convex lens type decal cover for easier view.

H-shaped Main Frame

29" wheel compatible new steel frame

V270 adopts the newly designed H-shaped main frame.
It is much lighter than previous Ergo type frame for easier transportation. And the total durability is increased to hold the rear wheel axle stiffly for maximizing the stability.
The frame height is also extended to be compatible with 29" wheel, so it can fit 29er bikes and cross bikes with fat tire such as 700x45c.

When using 26x1.5" or smaller tire, you must install the supplied Z-shaped adaptor between the Mag unit and the base plate. The minimum wheel size is 24".

The maximum load on V270 is 120 kgs including bike weight.

U-shaped Leg

For lighter weight and better stability

V270 adopts very unique U-shaped legs. This is not only for unique designing, it works for enabling lighter weight and better stability. Of course, it is foldable.

Let's compare to VFS150 with standard single leg frame.
The total weight of VFS including 1.5 kgs flywheel is 9.0 kgs, but V270 is 0.5 kgs lighter even though the flywheel weight is 0.5 kgs heavier! It means the combination of H-frame and U-leg have reduced the weight 1.0 kgs!

Once the legs are open, it supports the bike very effectively with wide span.

Each U-leg has an alloy support bar. By adjusting the dial on tip of the alloy bar, you can adjust each leg foot point +/- 10mm independently.
This is a very good benefit to promise perfect stability even on uneven ground surface when using V270 in outside like as warming-up before race.

(The latest CycleOps PRO series trainer has similar height adjustment system on the leg, but it is just one side so it's not perfect. V270 has this system on BOTH sides.)

2009-2010 model has chrome plated U-leg.

Quick Hub Clamping System

For minimizing your bike installation/removal time

We have been adopting thread type hub clamping system for long time. The large handle helps the operation so it is not so difficult, but it has to take longer time than quick release system. And you must keep holding the bike with another hand during this job.

V-series adopts the long-awaited quick hub clamping system on the right side (rear cog side). Just pushing down the lever, the coupling slides inward to catch the hub acorn in a second. You can release the bike from the trainer with just pulling up the lever.

The adjustment how tight clamping the rear wheel hub is done on the left side coupling. It is made of very durable single-piece solid bolt, and it has a lock ring to fix its position.

Please Note:
V-series's coupling design is compatible with the supplied quick release skewer only. You are not allowed to use your own skewer on any V-series trainer.

Foot Pedal

Quicker roller contact and extend tire life

When contacting the rear tire to the drive roller after installing the bike on the trainer, we usually operate a knob bolt, but it takes longer time and you must micro-adjust the compression depth every time you use. It's very troublesome and frustrated.

Tire worn cannot be avoided on any tire drive trainer, but if the roller pressure to the tire is properly adjusted, you can expect almost same tire life to your normal use on road.
If you apply too much pressure, the tire will be worn down fast. And you should know too less contact like as just touching the tire surface will eat the tire very quickly. The proper pressure is that the roller compresses the tire in the depth of 3 - 4mm. This is the tip to expand your tire life.

Foot Pedal allows you to minimizing the roller setting up time, and it can repeat same condition at any time automatically once you set it properly.

Cautions

Important notice

  • Flywheel and Alloy Rotor become very HOT while workout. Do NOT touch them during and at least for 15 minutes after finishing session.
  • Flywheel and the rear wheel are spinning very fast and will cause serious injury if you touch them. Keep small children and pet away from trainer while using.
  • The maximum load of V270 is 120 kgs including bike weight.
  • The couplings fit the supplied quick release skewer only. You cannot use your own skewer on V-series trainer. You must replace the skewer before use.
  • Hub nut type bike should have fitting problem. The inner diameter on coupling is larger than the hub nut so we cannot guarantee the stability. Replace the left side coupling to the optional special one.
  • Any internal transmission type bikes cannot be used on our trainer.
