Action Magroller (normal / wide) (Discontinued)
Easy-to-ride rollers with 105mm drums
105mm diameter roller drum
On rollers, the bike stands alone as same as the riding on the actual road, and both front and rear tires support all load.
The difference between on-road and on-roller riding is the compression force to the tire. Roller is not flat so it compresses the tire much deeper than road, then it will bring resistance.
The smaller the diameter of the roller, the more resistance generated due to the harder compression of the tire. Low tire air pressure will also increase the resistance.
In other words, the larger diameter roller is better for beginners.
Action Magroller adopts 105mm diameter roller drum to be familiar with those beginners.
Normal and wide roller
It's available two different width of roller on Action Magroller; normal (360mm) and wide (450mm).
Wide size is recommended to the beginners because they should easily loose balance.
Normal size is good for well skilled riders.
Alloy roller drum
Plastic roller drum is available from competitors, but it will have to generate static electricity in dry winter season due to the friction between the tire and roller surface. It sometimes brings uncomfortable electric shock when you touch metal part just after getting off the bike.
Our roller drum is made from alloy material so it avoids such problem from the beginning.
Also metal roller is much more durable than plastic one. And ours includes noise insulator inside to reduce the noise level.
Lightweight and compactly foldable alloy frame
The frame is uniquely constructed with 3 parts. It's our own design in the world.
The triple folded frame design allows very compact storage space, and the projected mid frame can be used as the step to rest your toe.
(A plastic wide step is also available as option).
Frame is made of light alloy to be rust-proof and lightweight for easy transportation.
Compatible from 24" to 700c
The front roller is position adjustable in 5 points in order for getting perfect setting to your actual wheelbase size (from 940 to 1,080mm). It allows wide variety of wheel size from 24"/650c to 27"/700c.
(It's not recommended to use Action Magroller with 20" mini-velo even if the wheelbase size is in the range)
When using 24"/650c wheel, set the rear roller position to the further hole.
Rollers History
Our original size
Our trainer history started from rollers.
We developed the 1st triple roller trainer "TRO-1000" in late '70s. The first tire drive stationary trainer was developed 4 years later.
Even in the first generation, most core specs had already been completed such as material or dimensions.
We adopted the light alloy material for the roller drum since the beginning, besides the competitors tried plastic rollers.
Regarding the drum size, we chose 130mm diameter at the first model, then it was changed to 105mm on the next model "Magroller". Now this "105mm" is the world standard size.
Action Magroller is the lineal model and it means this model has the longest history in our trainer line.
Benefit Of Rollers
Natural & very realistic riding feel
The biggest benefit of rollers is its natural riding feel.
You can enjoy very realistic riding feel such as steering little by little for maintaining your balance on the freely spinning roller drums. It cannot be expected on any stationary trainer that holds your bike stiffly.
The steering character will be changed to very quick on rollers, so you need to keep the correct riding theory that you must sit on the saddle center properly and hold the handlebar softly. Otherwise, your front wheel will lose stability, will be shaken side by side, then it becomes quite hard to maintain balance.
In other words, we can say you will able to do the perfect riding even on actual road – maximum performance with minimum power – if you can ride smoothly on rollers.
Rollers is the best tool to learn the total riding skills.
The bike on rollers is not supported at all. It just stands on freely spinning rollers by the gyro moment from wheels. Therefore, you may fall off once you lose balance.
This is the point people feels that rollers is not familiar with beginners. But you don't need to worry about it so seriously. We are sure you can get learned quicker than you imagine.
You need to concentrate on riding on rollers. You may not be able to watch TV or stretch your body when get tired while you are on rollers. We say you need to train seriously and excitingly on rollers, therefore you won't be bored.
Don't worry, these things can be done after some training.
In addition, rollers will not apply so much resistance to the tire, so you can expect much longer tire life.
People usually replace the tire from the expensive new one to the old one for using stationary trainer just before the race for warming-up, but it is not necessary if you use rollers.
In general, the biggest problem on rollers is its louder noise.
Even though we put an insulator in each roller drum to reduce the noise as much as possible, the total noise level must be higher than stationary trainers. So we don't recommend you to use rollers indoor if your neighbors are nervous to noises.
Dancing on rollers is not recommended even if you are an expert rider.
Also do not apply braking while on rollers. You may be dangerously blown backward.
Training On Rollers
To get total riding skill
Basically, trainer is the equipment for changing your body how fast you ride. Both stationary trainer and rollers are designed for this purpose, but each type has its own benefit.
The stationary trainer that clamps the rear wheel is mainly for building up muscles and increasing cardiopulmonary function. It gives artificial resistance to simulate climbing up the slope.
Please note if you focus on just building up muscles, your pedaling technique may become worse that just pushing down the pedal strongly. It's not good for smooth riding, you need to imagine "rotating" pedal.
On the other hand, rollers is focusing on getting total riding skill rather than just building up muscles. You can learn correct riding position and more effective pedaling technique that help you on actual riding. It's good for LSD (Long & Slow Distance) training.
Once you can ride on rollers without any unnecessary movement, it means you can also ride on road smoothly, safely and fast.
Tips For Riding Rollers
Make sure most weight are gathered in center
At first, get on bike and support your body by holding a wall or handrail.
Apply your main weight to the saddle. Do not apply any force to the handlebar. Just touching is fine.
Grab the handlebar at the area as close to the stem as possible where should be the better position to keep balance easily.
Do not look down, see 2 - 3 meters ahead.
Start pedaling while supporting your body by holding the wall. You should pedal a little fast, not slowly, if you want to start riding without hand support.
The gear position should be set in middle, not too light nor too heavy. Keep 20 km/h or faster.
The handling must change quickly on rollers. Even a little angle will move the front wheel to the roller end very rapidly. To avoid such thing, do not apply any force to the handlebar to help the bike's own stability.
When you can ride without any stagger, release your hand from the wall and put back to the handlebar quickly.
At this moment, be careful not to lose balance. Do not look down and keep watching 2 - 3 meters ahead.
Make sure you "spin" the pedal, not pushing down. When you push down the pedal, imagine you need to pull up another side pedal. It is essential to use both pedals at once. Make sure you set your kneecaps close to the top-tube. Do not open your legs.
Keep the certain speed.
If you put 100% of your weight to the saddle, it is not difficult to remove your hands from the handlebar, but do not do while you are still a beginner.
Do not apply brake to stop training, otherwise you will be brown backward dangerously. Just stop pedaling and wait until the speed gets down. Then hold the wall to support your body just before stopping.
Light Alloy Frame
Lightweight and anti-rusting frame
Action Magroller's frame is made of light alloy. Even your salty sweat has adhered the frame while using, the anodized finish resists against sweat and it won't rust.
To fit your bike's wheelbase perfectly, the front roller is adjustable in 5 positions between 970 and 1,090 mm.
We recommend you to set the front roller 10 – 15 mm further than the front wheel axle to get safe and smooth riding. If it has been set just beneath the axle, your handling will become much quicker and it's not the setting for beginners.
Do not set the front roller behind the front axle. Your bike will easily fall off from the roller.
The frame is uniquely foldable into three to be much compacter than others.
Foot Step & Front Guard
Optional safety devices
You need to maintain balance correctly on rollers for safe riding, especially in the beginning of pedaling. To avoid losing balance, you should have a stable base in the point where you can reach toe easily.
The optional Foot Step can be installed on the mid frame quite easily without any tool. The top area is large enough to allow you to place your toe quite easily.
In addition, the top surface has anti-slip rubber sheet to avoid slippage problem caused by hard plastic cleat under your shoes.
Front Guard is also the safety device to avoid falling off accident when you lose balance.
The spinning front wheel will hit the wall to reduce the speed.
Please be sure this guard doesn't protect your tire so it may be damaged if you hit so hard.
Foot Adjuster Size
Different bolt length on the Foot Adjuster
Since March 2009, we adopt different bolt size on the mid Foot Adjuster in order to level the rollers more effectively.
When ordering a replacement Foot Adjuster when you miss it, please notify your desired bolt size to the shop. They are not compatible.

We have been using M8x55 size for all adjusters until February 2009, and it's changed to M8x50 (5mm shorter).

Cautions
Important Notices
- If you are just beginner, you must have a well skilled helper. Use rollers beside a wall or handrail for your safety.
- Do not apply any force to handlebar and apply most weight to saddle for safe and stable riding.
- Adjust the front wheel position correctly to fit your bike's wheelbase perfectly. If the front roller is set in wrong position, you may fall off.
- Do not apply brake at any times on rollers, otherwise, you may lose balance and fall off suddenly. To quit training, just stop pedaling for slowing down.
- 24-inch and 650c wheel are not recommendable to use on Action Magroller. Choose ActionRoller Advance for these sizes.
- Dancing riding on rollers is not recommended.
- Adjust tire air pressure correctly before use. Roller drum compresses the tire much harder than ground, so if the air pressure is too low, the tire will be deformed and may burst in worst case.
- Do not touch the spinning wheel, roller and belt to avoid injury. Keep children and pets away from rollers during session.
- Do not stand on the roller drum.

Tire Noise
I hear squealing noise from the tire
On rollers, the tire is compressed much harder than road because the roller drum contacts the tire much sharper than flat road.
If the tire air pressure is low at this moment, you hear the squealing noise when the tire moves side to side on the roller.
To solve this problem, inflate the tire to maintain the air pressure to normal or more (up to 20% plus).
If the tire is in cold condition, you should hear same squealing noise. In this case, it should be disappeared after one minute ride.
Roller Belt
My roller belt has been broken
The roller belt connects the front and mid rollers to drive the front wheel together with the rear wheel. On rollers, it is necessary to spin both front and rear wheels to generate the gyro moment to stand the bike.
If the belt has been broken, you cannot stand on rollers at all.
Our roller belt is made of flexible urethane material so it is completely universal on every rollers from old to new.
To re-joint the roller belt, put both belt ends onto hot iron for melting, then rapidly put them together while they are melted.
Of course, you can simply replace the roller belt to the new one. The replacement belt is available from your local Minoura dealer.
Be careful when handling hot iron.
