Minoura Japan – Optional Mag Unit

Optional Mag Unit

For adding extra resistance on rollers

The tire on the roller drum has been compressed much harder than the flat road because the roller drum contacts the tire sharper than ground, so you can get natural resistance from the beginning.
Most people are satisfied with this condition, but those who need more power to build up muscles should install the optional Mag resistance unit.

Mag unit is installed between the mid and rear roller drum, and it is driven by the rear roller via a V-belt.
The resistance level is adjustable by operating the white lever on top of the unit. No remote control version is available because it is dangerous if the cable is caught to the crank arm or wheels during ride.

There is no compatibility on the dimensions between Action Magroller and Advance/MOZ. Each model requires for its own one.

New You must choose the ADVANCE version for using on MOZ-Roller.

Difference Between Action & Advance

3 points are different between two models

Mounting Bracket

Action Magroller originally has the black plastic hex bracket on the rear frame for hooking the mag unit in position. While the Mag unit is not installed. it works as a bumper to avoid direct hitting the frame each other.
Advance doesn't have this bracket on the frame, so an extra metal bracket is necessary to mount the Mag unit.
Due to this reason, the optional Mag unit for Advance contains a metal bracket, but the unit for Action Magroller doesn't have it.

Pulley Position and Color

Also the roller drum end cap thickness is different between Action and Advance besides the color, so we differentiate the pulley position on the Mag unit slightly.
The unit for Action Magroller has silver pulley, and the one for Advance has gold pulley.
If you have installed wrong unit, the V-belt may wear out quickly due to wrong belt line.

V-belt Size

In addition, Advance's roller drum diameter is smaller than Action Magroller, so we also differentiate the V-belt size on each model.
Advance adopts smaller K-16 size, and Action Magroller adopts larger K-18 size.
(For your reference, K-16 is also adopted on our rim drive trainer too.)

Merit on Mag Unit

You can do power training on rollers

The main purpose of training on rollers should be getting total riding skill such as proper balance or smooth pedaling rather than power training for building muscles.
But if you want the training program as same as the stationary trainer even on rollers, install the optional Mag unit on your rollers.

The resistance power can be chosen from 7 levels by operating the white lever on top of the unit housing.
Do not operate the lever by your toe while you are riding on rollers. You must stop training and get off the bike.

Starting training at too strong resistance could not be good for your knee. We recommend starting in light level then gradually increase the resistance for warming-up.

Why No Remote?

It's dangerous if it has been caught while riding

Remote shifter is a convenient device to change the resistance level without getting off the bike, but it must require a long cable.
It's very dangerous if the long cable has been caught by your leg, crank arm or wheel during ride. Therefore, we don't prepare any remote type unit for rollers.

Cautions

Important Notices

  • Choose the right version to your model. There is no compatibility.
  • Mag unit must be stiffly installed to the frame until you listen the locking sound.
  • Adjust the V-belt tension properly. Too loose tension will burn out the drum end cap or pulley. Too much tension will shorten the belt life.
  • Change the resistance level after getting off the bike and you confirm the wheel is completely stopped
