Tool for checking the symmetry of wheel

If the wheel has been finished in unsymmetrical after your truing job, it's not good because the rim may touch the brake shoe or frame.
Wheel dishing tool is the device to check if the wheel is symmetrical (if the rim is located from exactly same distance from each hub axle end).

FCG-310 is made of lightweight alloy and foldable that allow you to store compactly when not in use.

The bracket to attach the hub is made of durable stainless steel. It is freely position adjustable and is compatible with up to 140mm hub width.

The gauge part to attach the rim fits the wheels sized 26" - 27" / 650c - 700c in standard. By flipping out the installation position, it will fit smaller wheels sized 18" - 22".

Necessity of Wheel Dishing Tool

To make your wheel truly symmetrical

When you do wheel truing job, you usually see the wheel with angled view, not straight, to see the nipples. As the result, the wheel should become unsymmetrical even though you spent a lot of time to fix the shaking. At worst case, you cannot install the wheel because the tire has touched the frame.

Dishing tool is the device to avoid such stupid problem and to set the wheel exactly in the center of the axle.

How To Use

Attach from both sides

Firstly, take off the tire. Dishing tool cannot be used if the wheel has tire.

Dishing tool is shaped as a bent bar.
While attaching both tool ends to the rim, slide the center bracket until it touches the hub end, then tighten to knob to lock the bracket. Now you record the wheel condition on this side.

Next, attach the dishing tool to the opposite side without changing the bracket position.

If you see that the center bracket doesn't touch the hub end even though both tool ends touch the rim, it means the wheel has been shifted to this direction.
If you see that the center bracket touches the hub end and either side of the tool end touches the rim, it means the wheel has been shifter to opposite direction.

You tighten the nipples on the shifted side to adjust the wheel center position.

Cautions

Important Notices

  • The applicable wheel sizes are 18" - 22" and 26" - 27" / 650c - 700c. 24" is out of range.
  • FCG-310 can be used on 9mm quick release skewer type hub and nut type hub only. Any thru axle type hub is not compatible.
  • Regarding the internal transmission type hub, if it has same hub nut system, you can use FCG-310.
  • FCG-310 can be used only when the body is fully opened.
  • Wheel is one of the most important parts on your safety as well as the brake. If you are not confident to do proper maintenance job or if you have limited skill only, you should ask to the skilled mechanics for the technique.
