Self standing type hanging bike stand

Hanging bikes for super space saving

It is necessary to have 1.7 meters long space for storing a bike horizontally. However, it should be difficult to find out such large space in the space limited entrance hall or in the balcony.
If you change the bike direction from horizontal to vertical by hanging the bike from a hook, you can store in just the with of handlebar.
P-600AL has a pair of hooks to hang down two bikes beside the pillar.

Pillar

The main pillar is made of lightweight and durable one-piece alloy tubing.
The previous P-60 had a jointed pillar constructed with two pieces of steel tubes, so it had been bent if heavy bikes are loaded. But no worry on P-600AL.

The hooks are fully position adjustable on the pillar with stainless band clip.

Extra rear leg

P-600AL has a K-shaped leg design to be setup next to the wall.
The rear wheel will have to be positioned behind the main pillar on P-600AL due to the weight balance, so it has an extra short leg on the backside to prevent falling down accident.
(PairStand doesn't have it)

Super Space Saving

Benefit on vertical storage

BikeTower, P-500AL and GravityStand holds the bikes in horizontal style, so they require at least the space width as same as the bike length. It's nearly 2 meters. However, some people have difficulty to find out such large space between furniture or in the balcony.
P-600AL hangs the bikes vertically you can store two bikes in only the space of 850mm width (in case of the handlebar width is 500mm).

New Stainless Band Clip

Changed from separated nut to welded nut

On P-600AL (ver.1.1), the stainless band clip has been changed in its design.

On the previous version, the rectangle nut was separated from the stainless band, so there was a chance to lose the nut while assembling.
And also, once you had removed the nut from the band, you may not be able to insert the nut correctly, because the nut is not square, but slightly rectangle.
On the new version, the nut is welded on the band end to be much easier for assembling.

There are two different sizes on the stainless band; 40mm and 45mm.
P-600AL uses 45mm only. Don't take wrong size when ordering a spare band.

Recommended Tightening Torque

Tighten M6 bolt at 5.2 N.m torque

The recommended tightening torque for the M6 bolt on the stainless band clip is 5.2 N.m (= 46 lbf.in).

Minoura strongly recommends you to use a torque wrench for tightening the bolt at correct power.
However, if you don't have the torque wrench, you can tighten with the following power;

Apply 7.1 kgs (= 15.7 lbs) to the 75mm (= 3 inch) long hex wrench end.

Cautions

Important Notices

  • P-600AL holds up to 2 bikes. No extra bikes allowed.
  • If you hang a bike on just one side, the weight balance will have to become worse. Be careful not to fall down. For this reason, it's not recommended to hang heavy electric bike on P-600AL.
  • If you don't use the rear wheel support arm, the bike will have to lean backward. Use this arm to keep the bike as vertical as possible.
  • Any bike longer than P-600AL's height (1.86 meter) cannot be stored.

Damage to Wheel

I'm worrying about the damage to wheel by hanging the bike

Some people worry about the damage or stress to the wheel by hanging the bike with wheel. It's found especially on the user who owns expensive carbon wheel. But there is nothing to worry.
The bike wheel is designed to support over 100 kgs rider's weight as well as the hard shock from the ground while riding. It's not stressful for the wheel at all to support the bike's own weight.

Although you must be careful not to hit the valve when placing the wheel on the hook.

Stay Position

Where should I hook the rear wheel stay?

Most heavy components are located lower part of the bike, so it won't become vertical and the rear wheel will have to be backward if you hang the bike due to this weight balance.
The rear wheel stay works to pull the bike to make it as vertical as possible in order to save the storage space.

You should hook the stay at the furthest point of the rear tire. If you hook other point, it will be removed easily and won't work.
Adjust the stainless band height as the bike is vertical when hooking the center of the rear tire.

It's not necessary to tighten the bolt of the stay's band so firmly, because you often open/close the stay. It's enough the stay won't come down by its own weight.

Shim

Should I insert a shim under the stainless band to avoid scratching?

Our stainless band is designed to be held in position when it perfectly wrapping the pillar.
If you insert a soft material shim such as vinyl or urethane sheet, it could be possible the cradle will drop due to the bike weight.
We don't recommend to insert anything between the band and pillar.

When adjusting the cradle height, loosen the band widely to make enough clearance between the band and pillar, then slide it.
The alloy pillar has transparent clear coat on its surface, so it could be scratched if you don't loosen the band enough.

Modification

Can I change my P-600AL to P-500AL?

Yes, it's possible. By replacing the hooks to the bike cradles, you can change to P-500AL.
At this moment, you don't need to remove the rear short leg on P-600AL.

Caution on using Stainless Band Clip

Please be sure about the following points when using 40mm or 45mm stainless band clip comes with BikeTower5, BikePit, P-500 and P-600 stands.
Failure or ignoring these points should cause a band breakage problem.

Caution 1: Nut angle to bolt

ボルト斜めねじ込みE.jpgDo not screw at wrong angle
It is crucial to place the bolt to the nut at correct angle to screw smoothly and perfectly. However, it can happen that the bolt is screwed into the nut a few rotation even if the bolt is set at certain slanted angle. This is an unavoidable phenomenon due to the physical mechanism of threading.

You screw the bolt 0.5 - 1 turn into the nut then it will be terminated. This is the typical case of wrong insertion angle problem. Do not think that it has caused by defect thread on either bolt or nut. It happens due to the wrong insertion angle.
And do not try to use a tool (hex wrench) after this termination to tighten more. You should not use tool from the beginning. Remember a bolt must be screwed by your finger and use the tool in the final stage only to tighten firmly.

Caution 2: Wrong Clip Band Shape

バンド異常E.jpgThe band clip may be deformed
The stainless band is already installed in the factory to the same diameter tube for individual inspection. The band shape should be corrected during this process, but it can happen that the band has been deformed during transportation due to some reasons.
To confirm if the band still keeps the correct shape, try to assemble temporally prior to the final assembling.

Once the band has been deformed, the band ends will not overlap properly and you will see some gap between the band ends when closing the band around the pillar. This is the sign for correction.
Remove the band and correct the shape by temporally winding around the pillar.

Caution 3: Correct Clip Band Shape

バンド正常E.jpgThe band ends overlap perfectly
The correctly shaped band clip shows no gap between the band ends. This can be checked only after winding around the pillar. You are not allowed to check the band itself.
Confirm the bolt is heading to the pillar center and the angle to the nut is 90 degrees.

Caution 4: Do not push bolt

ブラケット装着E.jpgThe band will be deformed if you push the bolt
When attaching the plastic bracket, try to align the band ends in the bracket by pushing toward the pillar.
Be sure do not push the bolt when screwing. The pushed bolt will compress the band, then the band end will be bent and you may not be able to screw the bolt correctly.
Remember you should not use any tool from the beginning.

The correct procedure should be;
1) Pinch the bolt by finger and screw in without pushing the bolt to catch the thread smoothly.
2) After confirming the bolt successfully catches the thread, continue screwing by finger 3 more revolutions.
3) If you don't have any problem on screwing, you can use the tool, but we strongly recommend you to continue using your finger until you cannot tighten more.
4) Use the tool for final tightening.
