MT-900

Rear disc brake compatible steel rack

Recent bikes are equipped with rear disc brake for safe riding under any weather condition.
However, disc brake is often conflicts to the rear rack due to its bulky caliper, so it is almost impossible to install ordinary rear rack on such bikes.
Usually you should choose the seat-post mounting type small rack, but the max load on this type is too small such as 5 kgs, because there is no legs and every load must be supported by the seat-post only at quite far point.

MT-900 is to be capable with such bikes by expanding the foot area wider. Also MT-900 is compatible with most pannier bags (inner hook size = 10 mm).

To be universal as much as possible, MT-900's mounting stay is thin stainless steel plate type and you can bend it easily to fit any frame size and type.

Max load of MT-900 is 18 kgs (approved product by Japanese official institute as JIS Class-18).

How To Escape Caliper

There are several solutions to avoid the conflict with rack and brake caliper;

1. Shorten the rack height and clamp the mid section of seat-stay instead of frame end.
The negative points are
1) Less stability on the pannier bag due to short back
2) Pannier bag may touch the spinning wheel
3) Less load capacity due to the bracket mounting on seat-stay

2. Make the rack unsymmetrical and mount the rack beyond the caliper.
The negative points are;
1) Higher production cost
2) Depends on the caliper position (for example, floating caliper), the rack may not fit

MT-900 has long tubes on the bottom of the rack, then they escape the caliper.
At same time, we can set the pannier bags away from the wheel.

Cautions

Important Notices

  • The bike frame must have the M5 or M6 threaded holes to mount the rack. We don't supply any bracket for the case that the bike doesn't have this hole.
  • To avoid the conflict with rack and heel, we set MT-900 a little backward intentionally. So it's not recommendable to mount a kids seat on MT-900.
  • When installing MT-900 onto small frame, you must extend the mounting stay and the total load capacity will have to be decreased.
